About Us

We believe every person is not only meant to live, but to live well.

Our Mission

To provide education, motivation, and means for individuals and communities to live more healthfully and meaningfully, by adopting healthier lifestyle practices spiritually, mentally, intellectually, socially, physically, and environmentally.

Our Goal

To reduce chronic disease and improve the quality of life of individuals and communities, through a comprehensive lifestyle enhancement program combining the resources, skills, and perspectives of faith and health communities.

Our Objectives

  1. To train motivated Lay Health Promoters from area congregations and provide them with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills for engaging in individual healthful lifestyle practices in six dimensions of human life: spiritual, mental, intellectual, social, physical, and environmental.
  2. To train, assist and support motivated Lay Heath Promoters in developing effective health ministries in their congregations, which encourage members of the congregation to engage in healthful lifestyle practices in the six dimensions of human life.
  3. To increase the capacity of communities for developing and supporting healthful lifestyle practices among their residents, through the activities of motivated Lay Health Promoters directed at health promotion and disease prevention in area congregations.

Our Philosophy

Our name, “GoodNEWS”, brings together what is known about Genes, Nutrition, Exercise, Wellness, and Spiritual Growth because we believe that it is the combination of these ingredients working well together which helps an individual to live healthfully. And, just as it takes the cooperation of many ingredients in an individual’s life to bring about health, it takes the partnership of individuals in a community to bring about lasting health in the community. Thus, it is essential that the activities and efforts of individuals, congregations, and health organizations, be woven together to create a comprehensive community fabric that supports the health and life of the entire community. A healthy life is within reach of all people but only when it becomes a part of routine living – health cannot be achieved solely through participating in a health promotion program. Rather, health must be embraced as a means to the end of living a happy and productive life, and can only be achieved through understanding and adopting a health-promoting lifestyle.
