Life Enhancement Program

Lay Health Promoter Training

The GoodNEWS Life Enhancement Program provides training for Lay Health Promoters (LHPs) from interested and qualified church congregations. Our goal is to equip LHPs with a solid foundation in healthy living principles and guidelines, while empowering them to develop active health ministries to serve their congregations and communities.

Currently, our GoodNEWS Life Enhancement Program consists of a didactic training experience – a four-day or three-day overnight format – featuring required class days, presentations by GoodNEWS staff and affiliated health experts, lively class discussions, and interactive activities. Lay Health Promoters learn about basic anatomy and disease processes, healthy living practices, community resources for health promotion, and how to establish an active health ministry to serve their congregation. Our core curriculum is designed to help LHPs embrace healthful living practices in the six dimensions of health.

Who is a Lay Health Promoter?

A Lay Health Promoter is a volunteer from a church congregation, who has been recommended by their pastor, who is interested in healthy living principles and gaining knowledge of the tools and principles for developing an ongoing and active health ministry in his or her congregation.
